Fe-57 Mossbauer measurements of U6Fe have been performed in the temperature
range from 10 to 250 K. U6Fe with the bet-structure of D2(C) type is an en
hanced Pauli-paramagnet, showing a pure quadrupole splitting in the Mossbau
er spectrum. We have determined the sign of the electric field gradient ten
sor and the asymmetry parameter by applying magnetic fields up to 7T. The c
onversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) has been also measured on
a single crystal specimen. The origin of the large quadrupole splitting is
found to be due to the 3d(3z2-r2) orbital of iron atoms.
