Abstract
This paper illustrates, in a general way, how compounding raw materials use d in several non-tread tire components can affect their properties that in turn will influence tire durability. Examples are given of the effect of po lymers, antidegradants and curing agents on compound properties including w eather resistance, impermeability, fatigue resistance, hysteresis and adhes ion, Included is data illustrating the advantages of a new bromobutyl polym er in innerliners, and of neodymium catalyzed butadiene rubber in sidewalls .
