W. Wossmann et al., Hereditary fructose intolerance as cause of hepatomegaly with isolated increase in gamma GT in a 5 year old boy, KLIN PADIAT, 212(3), 2000, pp. 108-109
The diagnosis of HFI is easily missed during childhood. It should be suspec
ted in children presenting with hepatomegaly and an isolated increase in GG
T.A carefully taken nutritional history forms the basis of the diagnosis of
HFI which can be confirmed by molecular analysis with a sensitivity of > 9
5 %. I.v. fructose tolerance tests and liver biopsies often can be omitted.
