For many nurses, the first step toward becoming a nurse researcher is to ob
tain help to develop and conduct research that documents outcomes of their
novel innovation. These opportunities to engage in health services research
of ten require collaborating with trained researchers who may not have cli
nical backgrounds. Collaboration generates learning and sharing processes t
hat can be rewarding on many levels. To understand the realities of the col
laboration process, this article provides a case study as the authors recou
nt their experiences.
