Abstract
In the central and western Betics, two brittle normal fault systems di smembered the previous Alpujarride allochthonous metamorphic sheets du ring the Miocene. An interference pattern of the two extension systems that can be described as a chocolate-tablet mega-structure took place , the resultant subordinate units being separated in both N-S and ENE- WSW directions. On the basis of the present position of these extensio n units and, in particular, the constraints of their metamorphic regis ter, it is possible to infer a total of five major allochtonous tecton ic units related to the former nappe-stacking of the Alpujarride compl ex.
