Transverse-held measurements of the muon-spin precession frequency and rela
xation rate in liquid supercooled and solid Co1-xPdx (0.1 less than or equa
l to x less than or equal to 0.3) show the characteristic behaviour of a fe
rromagnet. On decreasing the sample temperature from above its Curie-temper
ature T-C, the precession frequency decreases, while the relaxation rate in
creases and diverges on approaching T-C. Close to T-C the temperature depen
dence of the inverse frequency shift is in good agreement with susceptibili
ty measurements. In the solid phase, the magnetic field at the muon strongl
y decreases with the addition of palladium; for x = 0.2 it is only 10% of t
he field in pure cobalt. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
