We have used mu SR to study NdGa6 which is a member of the REGa6 series of
compounds. Below T-N (10.4 K) two precessing muon signals are observed show
ing that the implanted muons are trapped at two distinct sites. In the para
magnetic regime, two muon depolarisation rates are observed and these can b
e attributed to the same two sites. We have calculated the magnetic field a
s a function of the position in the unit cell. No obvious muon sites exist
in the structure, but we have found likely volumes for the muons and large
fractions of the cell have been excluded as possible candidates. (C) 2000 E
