A novel time-differential mu SR data-acquisition system

A versatile time-differential mu SR data-acquisition set-up for quasi-conti nuous muon beams is described, which is based on a recently available NIM t ime-to-digital converter. The set-up is very compact, easy to use and, in c ontrast to the traditional hardware method, the full data selection is perf ormed by software. The set-up proved to be reliable and extremely stable, c urrently it is regularly used at the Paul Scherrer Institut by several grou ps. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
