We study a two-dimensional granular gas of inelastic spheres subject to mul
tiplicative driving proportional to a power \ v(x)\(delta) of the local par
ticle velocity nu(x). The steady state properties of the model are examined
for different values of delta, and compared with the homogeneous case delt
a = 0. A driving linearly proportional to nu(x) seems to reproduce some exp
erimental observations which could not be reproduced by a homogeneous drivi
ng. Furthermore, we obtain that the system can be homogenized even for stro
ng dissipation, if a driving inversely proportional to the velocity is used
