The ultrasonic velocity, u, viscosity, eta, and density, rho of dimethylsul
phoxide (DMSO), 1-butanol, 1-hexanol, 1-octanol, and of their binary mixtur
es, where DMSO is common component, have been measured at 303.15K. From the
experimental data, excess isentropic compressibility, K-s(E) excess interm
olecular. free length, L-f(E), excess velocity, u(E), excess acoustic imped
ance, Z(E), excess viscosity, eta(E), excess free energy of activatobn of v
iscous flow, G*(E). and excess rheochore, [R-E] have been calculated. The b
ehaviours of excess functions with composition of the mixtures suggest that
the structure-breaking effect dominates over the interaction effect betwee
n the component molecules. Furthermore, the experimental values of u and et
a were fitted by empirical equations stating their dependence on compositio
n of the mixtures. The experimental values of u have been compared with tho
se calculated by using Nomoto and Van Dael relations.
