Abstract
Amplification of high signal gain (36dB, approximately 4000 times) and high output power (1200W) achieved in a Rhodamine B (RB)-doped graded -index (GI) polymer optical fiber amplifier (POFA) based on a predicti on in which absorption and emission cross section data were used. The absorption and emission cross section spectra of RE, Rhodamine 6G, and hylene-2-methyl-6-(p-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM) in poly(meth yl methacrylate) (PMMA) bulk were determined. The cross section data e nable us to predict gain characteristics of RB, R6G, and DCM-doped GI POFA. Tile wide spectral coverage in the visible is achievable with th e GI POFAs doped with several selected dyes.
