The anodic oxidation and electropolymerization of 2-aminophenol on platinum
, vitreous carbon and copper electrodes has been studied in alkaline hydroa
lcoholic medium using electrochemical techniques (cyclic voltammetry and ch
ronoamperometry). This oxidation leads to the formation of homogeneous and
adherent films, insoluble in usual solvents that can be of a great interest
in the domain of materials protection. The analysis by ESCA and IR spectro
metry has permitted the identification of the organic film and allows to pr
opose a mechanism for 2-aminophenol electropolymerization. (C) 2000 Elsevie
