Abstract
A survey has been performed on 403 cats infected by fleas, coming from 75 d epartments distributed over french territory. Among the 1337 fleas collecte d, 8 species have been identified : Ctenocephalides felis (97.9 %), Spilops yllus cuniculi (0.9 %), Ctenocephalides canis (0.5 %), Ceratophyllus sp. (0 .3 %), Xenopsylla cheopis (0.07 %), Pulex irritans (0.07 %), Archeopsylla e rinacei (0.07 %) et Leptopsylla segnis (0.07 %). 97.8 % of cats were infect ed by C. felis and only 0.74 % by C. canis or Spilopsyllus cuniculi. C. fel is has been identified on all over the country, on animals living inside or outside. All animals living inside were only infected by C. felis. On the other hand, other species were all collected on cats which had access outsi de, most of them had predatory habits.
