Abstract
Up to now only a small fraction of the Gamow-Teller (GT) sum rule is k nown to be exhausted in the spectrum of Li-8. He-8 beta-decay to the L i-6+n+n channel is studied as a process which may indicate the concent ration of GT strength at high excitation energies (near 9 MeV) in the spectrum of Li-8. An estimate of the branching ratio is obtained with a COSMA He-8 wave function and a three-body Li-6+n+n continuum. (C) 19 97 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
