Abstract
The photoelectric phenomena and orientational nonlinearity induced by nanos econd laser pulses in planar layers of liquid crystals oriented by silicon oxide (SiO) and activated with polymethine dyes were investigated. These ph enomena are due to the photogeneration of surface and bulk charges in the l iquid crystal cell, their spatial distribution between the grating vector a nd the beam propagation directions, and the electrohydrodynamic instability .
