Am. Pirttila et al., Detection of intracellular bacteria in the buds of Scotch fine (Pinus sylvestris L.) by in situ hybridization, APPL ENVIR, 66(7), 2000, pp. 3073-3077
Bacterial isolates were obtained from pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) tissue cul
tures and identified as Methylobacterium extorquens and Pseudomonas synxant
ha. The existence of bacteria in pine buds was investigated by 16S rRNA in
situ hybridization. Bacteria inhabited the buds of every tree examined, pri
marily colonizing the cells of scale primordia and resin ducts.
