A case of a nasal mite infection in a seven-year-old male mixed breed dog,
with a history of chronic nasal discharge, sneezing, decreased sense of sme
ll and stertorous breathing of a four month duration, is reported. Rhinosco
py and microscopic examination of material collected by nasal flushing conf
irmed the diagnosis of rhinitis due to P. caninum. The dog was treated with
invermectin (200 mu g/kg, s/c) once a week for three consecutive weeks. Co
mplete resolution of clinical signs was reported.
