Theoretical and experimental studies of cubic BN mixed with various metals
and metal nitrides in the molar ratio 1:1 and 2.1 are reported. Theoretical
calculations show that all investigated phases react with cubic BN forming
new phases at 1400 and 1627 degrees C, Experimental cBN-phase composites w
ere prepared by high pressure hot pressing. Additionally, studies of the ph
ase composition, morphology as well as of the mechanical properties of the
superhard materials obtained have been carried out. Of all materials studie
d, composites containing a titanium binding phase show the best mechanical
