Abstract
A finite element formulation for the determination of higher order stress a nd displacement fields for antiplane shear loading of power-law hardening m aterials is presented. In this displacement based finite element formulatio n, the Newton method is coupled with singular Value decomposition to solve the nonlinear system of equations. The first two asymptotic terms in the di splacement field are included in the formulation, which gives the first thr ee terms in the stress field. Examples are presented for the single materia l crack problem subjected to antisymmetric and arbitrary loading, the singl e material wedge, and the bimaterial case of a crack perpendicular to an in terface.
