The investigations of temperature dependence of the birefringence in ferroe
lectric phases of Rb2Cd2(SO4)(3) crystals, which belong to langbeinite fami
ly were carried out. The temperature isotropic point (temperature point of
the absence of linear birefringence) in Rb2Cd2(SO4)(3) crystals in monoclin
ic phase at T-i = 113K connected with the change of spontaneous polarizatio
n sign was experimentally founded. The existence of temperature isotropic p
oint was explained on the base of electrooptical effect induced by spontane
ous polarization. It was shown that Rb2Cd2(SO4)(3) crystals belong to the g
roup of weak ferroelectrics.
