Anergic T cells as active regulators of the immune response

T cell energy is one of the mechanisms leading to the establishment and mai ntenance of peripheral tolerance. Recent data from our and other laboratori es indicate that anergic T cells are not functionally inert but in fact are capable of regulating the immune response in an active manner.
