Abstract
The objective of this paper is to explore how to determine the number of re commended measuring points and their measuring positions in the surface mea surement of coordinate measuring machines. This paper starts from the desig n blueprint of a surface. The mesh grids data on the surface are obtained t o conduct Coons bicubic surface patch. The normal direction error between t his patch and the designed surface is calculated and analysed by surface er ror. The error is then compared with the designated acceptable error value to determine the recommended measuring points of the surface.
