THE HUMBOLDT-HIGH-MAGNETIC-FIELD-CENTER IN BERLIN

We introduce concept and possibilities of the HUMBOLDT High Magnetic F ield Center at the Physics Department of the HUMBOLDT-University in Be rlin. The facility includes steady and pulsed magnetic fields up to th e megagauss regime. In detail steady magnetic fields using a supercond ucting solenoid up to 20 T, pulsed fields up to 50 T using nondestruct ive coils, and megagauss fields using the single- and multi-turn coil technique are provided. As complementary spectroscopic components opti cally pumped laser systems (10 mum-2.6 mm) and backwave oscillators (2 50 mum-7.5 mm continuously) are available.
