Abstract
Sea water dilution (to 5% and 1% of sea water) induced a reversible, plasma metabolic acidosis in a euryhaline teleost (the oyster toadfish Opsanus ta u). Net H+ transfer between the fish and the water decreased in both low sa linity exposure (LSE) groups during the first week of exposure and Delta H returned to normal after similar to 10 days of 5% LSE, but not during 1% L SE.
