A study is made of the sensitization of triphenylamine-containing polyimide
s in the IR and visible regions of the spectrum (500-1200 nm). These polyim
ides are the most promising of the aromatic polymers for making recording m
edia; when sensitized by the most efficient dyes for the IR region of the s
pectrum, the photosensitivity at wavelength 1060 nm is 5 x 10(3) cm(2)/J, w
hich is an order of magnitude greater than that achieved for other polymers
