The conventional balancing machines utilize two-plane separation for the de
termination of equivalent imbalances. However, the imbalance masses of a cr
ank-shaft cannot be corrected at arbitrary locations of the balancing plane
s. This study has presented a modified method for balancing crank-shafts by
using the soft-pedestal machines. The modified influence coefficient metho
d for asymmetrical rotor-bearing systems has been applied to balance crank-
shafts. Also, the decomposition method for irremovable masses has been repl
aced by an iteration method based on an influence coefficient approach. Fur
thermore, the validity and accuracy of the modified approach are verified i
