The Al-Ce-Ni phase diagram was constructed in the field of aluminum-ri
ch corner for concentrations of up to 16 wt% Ce and up to 8 wt% Ni. Th
e existence of ternary eutectic reaction L --> (Al) + NiAl3 + CeAl4 is
established at 12% Ce and 5% Ni and 625 degrees C. The as-cast struct
ure of the ternary eutectic alloy is close to the structure of rapidly
solidified aluminum alloys containing transition metals. The possibil
ities of the design of new cast alloys based on, three-phase eutectic
(Al) + NiAl3 + CeAl4, where (Al) is the aluminum-based solid solution
are considered, The (Al) solid solution may be represented by the foll
owing basic systems: Al-Zn-Mg-Cu, Al-Sc, and Al-Zr.
