Physicochemical properties of the 1:2:2 compounds formed in the ternar
y Sm-(Pd,Pt)-(Si,Ge) systems were studied. The X-ray study confirmed t
hat the crystalline structure of the SmPd2Si2 and SmPd2Ge2 compounds c
orresponds to the well-known CaBe2Ge2 structural type. Electrophysical
and magnetic properties were studied at temperatures of 4-200 K. A sp
ontaneous magnetization is found to arise in the SmPd2Si2 compound at
temperatures below 34 K.
