Abstract
The reaction of [NBu4](2)[{(C6F5)(2)Pt(mu-PPh2)(2)Pt(mu-Cl)}(2)] with AgClO 4 in CH2Cl2 (1:2 mol ratio) gives the neutral tetranuclear compound [Pt-4(m u-PPh2)(3)(mu(3)-PPb(1,2-eta(2)-Ph)-kappa(3)P)}(C6F5)(4)] (5), a 58-electro n cluster that displays three Pt-Pt bonds and a 1,2-eta(2)-Ph (of the PPh2 ligand) Pt interaction. This complex reacts with bipy or phen (L-L), giving the tetranuclear clusters [Pt-4(mu-PPh2)(4)(C6F5)(4)(L-L)] (L-L = bipy 6, phen 7), while its reaction with CO in CH2Cl2 renders [{Pt-2(mu-PPh2)(2)(C6 F5)(2)(CO)}(2)] (8). The molecular structures of complexes 5 and 6 have bee n established by X-ray crystallography, and the structure of 8 is inferred by P-31 NMR spectroscopy.
