Abstract
Alkaline earth metal salts of hexacoordinate dianionic silicates [(C6H4O2)( 2)Si(NCS)(2)](2-) M2+ [where M = Ca (1), Sr (2), Ba (3)] are prepared from the reaction of alkaline earth metal thiocyanates suspended in CH3CN, dieth oxy diisothiocyanatosilane and benzene-1,2-diol under very mild conditions. The compounds are characterised by elemental analyses, IR, multinuclear (H -1, C-13, Si-29) NMR and FAB mass spectroscopy.
