Electron pulse induced absorption spectra and their decay kinetics have bee
n investigated in LiNbO3 crystals with various Li/Nb ratios ranging from co
ngruent to stoichiometric composition. It is shown that the absorption spec
tra, the optical density and the decay kinetics depend on the Li/Nb ratio.
The rising front of the induced absorption is too fast to be resolved. The
room temperature decay, characterized by the half-lifetime Delta t, is fast
er in the stoichiometric crystal (similar to 750 ns) than in the congruent
crystal (similar to 3.5 mu s).
