Abstract
Besides the investigation of the emission band, accurate measurements of bo th lifetime and quantum yield were performed concerning Cu+ and Ag+ lumines cence in alkali halides. The validity of the Pedrini model for the decay pr ocess was verified and was then extended to include the off-centre configur ation; evidence of non-radiative processes tin NaCl : Ag+) as well as of a switching for on and off-centre configurations in NaCl:Cu+ was ascertained. The first data concerning the emission of Au+ in KCl were obtained.
