A satisfactory level of mechanical properties for hot rolled strip can only
be reached by accurate control of the run-out table cooling. A model and a
control system are presented, which enable to adjust the cooling pattern t
o the requirements specific to the product being rolled. The model is auto-
adaptative. Empirical tables are used to characterize heat exchange efficie
ncy between the product and the cooling water. Thanks to this model, signif
icant improvements have been obtained for rolling performance and product q
uality.
