Some new Cu(II) mononuclear and Cu-La polynuclear complexes with a potentia
l bidentate ligand, 2-[(diethylamino) methyl]-6-ethylphenol (AOH) and a pot
ential tridentate ligand 2,6- bis[(diethylamino)-methyl]-phenol (A'OH), res
pectively, were isolated. The complexes with the following general formulas
[Cu(LH)Cl-2] [Cu(LH)(H2O)(2)](NO3)(2), (LH = AOH or A'OH), [Cu(AOH)(AO)Cl]
, [Cu(A'O)(2)(H2O)], [CuLaL2(CH3COO)(3)] (L = AO or A'O) were characterized
by molar electrical conductivity measurements, electronic, EPR and IR spec
tra. The nitrate complexes are paramagnetic having a strong EPR signal in c
ontrast with chloride complexes which are diamagnetic having very probably
a dimeric structure. The estimation of the electronic densities by MO calcu
lations confirms our supposition regarding the bidentate nature of both lig
ands in good agreement with the experimental data.
