This study deals with the safety of reinforced concrete columns designed fo
r stability against fire. A Monte Carlo simulation technique is used to ass
ess the probability of failure by faking into account the effect of tempera
ture on statistical distributions. The reliability of columns exposed to fi
re appears particularly affected by variations in the parameters such as th
e design exposure time, slenderness, and steel ratios. A possibility of red
ucing this sensitivity is proposed.
