Two series of the side - chain liquid crystalline polysiloxanes (LCPs), chi
ral LCPs and photochromic LCPs, were chosen to study their monolayer behavi
ors at the air/water interface when they were in pure states or mixed with
arachidic acid (AA). Their LB film transfer properties and film structures
were characterized as well. The aggregation phenomena in monolayers and LB
multilayers were systematically characterized by different spectral and sur
face morphology observation methods. The functionality of these LCPs in LB
films was preliminarily tested.
