Two complexes of dicyclopentadienyldiaspirin titanium(IV) and dicyclopentad
ienyl titanium(IV) disalicylate were synthesized by the reactions of dicycl
opentadienyl titaniumdichloride with sodium acetyl salicylate or sodium sal
icylate in absolute benzene and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, H-
1 NMR, XPS etc. The formulas of the complexes were established as cp(2)Ti(A
sp)(2) and cp(2)Ti(Sal)(2) (in which cp = eta(5) - C5H5, Asp = acetyl salic
ylate ion, Sal = salicylate ion). Asp and Sal were coordinated to Ti(IV)) v
ia monodentate form. By the determination and the comparison of the elimina
tion rates to supraoxide anion free radical(O-2(-.)) and hydroxyl free radi
cal (OH.) of the seven compounds [cp(2)Ti(Asp)(2), cp(2)Ti(Sal)(2), cp(2)Ti
Cl(2), aspirin(HAsp), salicylic acid(HSal), Ti(OH)(2)(Asp)(2) and Ti(OH)(2)
(Sal)(2)], it was discovered that formation of the mixed ligand complexes
from Asp(or Sal), cyclopentadienyl and Ti(IV) could produce the "synergisti
c action" for the elimination of the above radicals.
