The phylogenetic relationships of the species of the genus Ctenosaura were
analysed using two independent data sets derived from morpho-etho-ecologica
l and genetic (RAPD) markers. The analysis of the data matrix based on morp
ho-etho-ecological characters yielded a consensus tree with the species of
Ctenosaura forming three clades. The consensus tree based on the RAPD data
is not as well resolved as the morphological tree. Subgeneric status is pro
posed for the three monophyletic subgroups within the tnunophyletic genus C
tenosaura.
