Abstract
Selective derivatization of 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine has been achieved with controlled free radical bromination using N-bromosuccinimide. Mono an d disubstituted derivatives with alkyl bromides, alcohols, aldehydes, amine s, acids, esters and amides have been obtained in good yields using the abo ve strategy. Similar derivatives were obtained for 5 -methyl-2,2'-bipyridin e.
