Retinoid signalling has been implicated in regulating a wide variety of pro cesses in vertebrate development. Recent advances from analyses on the synt hesis, degradation and distribution of retinoids in combination with functi onal analysis of signalling components have provided important insights int o the regulation of patterning the nervous system and the hindbrain in part icular.
