Abstract
Selar crumenophthalmus, the bigeye scad, is a coastal pelagic fish, which f eeds mostly at night on large planktonic animals. Young scads prey mostly o n crustaceans (euphausiids, decapods) and adults are active predators of fi sh larvae and early juveniles. The large size of the eyes could be an adapt ation to night predation.
