Abstract
In this paper fossil Acrididae from Izarra (Alava, Spain) are studied. The site is dated as Oligocene and this is the oldest record of this family found in Spain. In this site Acrididae represent around 20 % of all the fossil insects. Commonly, in Tertiary sites, Caelifera occur as isolated specimens. The large percentage in Izarra could represent the oldest evidence of gregarious behavior between locusts.
