Abstract
The daily farm is a 'Food Manufacturing Facility'. Everyday it produces raw milk, dairy beef and liquid and solid nutrients. Since food safety begins on the farm, this mini-ecosystem must be managed on a daily basis for anima l health and well-being, public health, environmental health and the financ ial well-being of the operation. An approach, termed Dairy Breakthrough Man agement, has been developed as a way to bring HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critic al Control Points) principles to the farm and create a personnel infrastruc ture that can identify problems before they occur, then implement sustainab le programmes to address the issues. This is accomplished through team buil ding, proactive listening, problem solving and process management. This pre sentation will discuss the genesis of this programme and how it is being su ccessfully implemented on dairy farms.
