Abstract
In excess of 6,400 new gas wells per year will be required to meet future d emand, well above the current tie in levels. Total deliveries of gas from t he province of Alberta increased by 56% to 127 E9M3 from 1990 to 1997. Pipe line expansions in late 1997 to 2000 are expected to add a further 26 E9M3. The total demand by 2002 is expected to reach 177 E9M3. A study was conduc ted to examine the decline trend of gas wells over the last eight years wit h a view to predicting the future tie in requirements and the ability of Al berta to meet the increasing demand for gas. The study showed that new sour ces of gas are coming on at rates of less than 30 E3M3/D and gas wells rate s are declining at 27% the first year. Using the gas well productivity and performance results of the study, predictions were made of future in requir ements*.
