A robust numerical method for the localization of caustics is proposed for
general Hamiltonians. It is based on the direct resolution of a system of p
artial differential equations obtained through a local change of the time v
ariable in the Hamilton-Jacobi equation and complemented by a set of transp
ort equations. Numerical results (1- to 3-D) are presented. (C) 2000 Academ
