Abstract
Mass transport rate and composition of the transported material as a functi on of different process parameters like temperature, undercooling, inert ga s pressure, and the source compactness for different PbTe1-xSex composition s were studied. With proper preparation procedures mass transport rates sui table for growth at the rate of 0.5-1 mm/h were obtained. Different composi tion non-uniformities in the deposited material were observed. Due to devia tion of the PbTe-PbSe solid solution from ideality, congruent mass transpor t of the material takes place around X = 0.3. For other compositions an imp roved and even good uniformity can be achieved when a solid, pre-melted sou rce material is used. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
