Skin ulcers are the most common chronic wounds. Current management pri
nciples and theories of causation of the most common ulcers-pressure,
diabetic, and venous-are described. Issues related to occlusive dressi
ngs, compression dressings, topical antimicrobials, debridement, growt
h factors, grafting, and bioengineered tissue therapy are discussed. S
pecial emphasis is placed on regulatory concerns.
