Reanalysis of the S-allele genotypes in several apple cultivars

Because some inexplicable phenomena were uncovered in a series of our apple S-allele genotype analyses, the S-allele genotypes were reanalyzed in an a ttempt to explain the phenomena. The results of the reanalysis revealed tha t the inconsistency stemmed from the pedigree of 'Kinsei'. The pollen paren t of 'Kinsei' was not 'Ralls Janet'. S-genotypes of following apple cultiva rs and strains were corrected and the following S-genotypes were establishe d: (S-J a,S-J c) = 'Fukutami', 'Megumi', Tohoku 6, 'Kinsei','Redgold', Karo Fumei, Rero 18 (S-J a,S-J d) = Tohoku 5. I-172 (S-J a,S-J e) = 'Orei' (S-J a,S-J e) = 'Ralls Janet' -- : Cultivar or strain in which S-genotype was corrected. -- : Cultivar or strain in which S-genotype was newly determined.
