Diagnostics of schemes of overlapping between clouds of different laye
rs and types in general circulation models in comparison with data fro
m satellite and ground-based observations is carried out. Peculiaritie
s of the cloudiness overlapping coefficients in different latitudinal
belts over land and over ocean for different seasons are noted. Estima
tes for the uncertainty range of the total cloud amount variations in
general circulation models are carried out using different schemes of
the cloudiness overlapping.
