Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between regional glucose metabolis m with intellectual impairment in patients with Parkinson's disease using s tatistical parametric mapping. Regional cerebral glucose metabolism using [ F-18]deoxyglucose (FDG) PET scans were performed on 10 patients with Parkin son's disease. We used the intellectual impairment score from the UPDRS. PE T scans were analyzed with SPM96. Patients showed significant positive corr elations with left limbic structures such as the cingulate gyrus, parahippo campal gyrus, and medial frontal gyrus. Patients showed significant negativ e correlations with associative neocortical posterior structures such as bi lateral parietal and occipital gyrus. There were significant relationships between regional glucose metabolism and intellectual impairment. NeuroRepor t 11:2139-2144 (C) 2000 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
